So, today we will learn how to delete folders registered as favorites or delete the favorites list itself in Windows 10 File Explorer. If you want to hide recently used items from being displayed in Favorites, see File Explorer Delete recently used files and turn off the feature.

If you want to delete the folders registered in Favorites instead of deleting the Favorites items in File Explorer, proceed as follows.
If you do not want to display recently used files or folders in Favorites, disable the related options in Folder Options.
The previous process leaves the Favorites list intact and removes only the items within the Favorites. In this case, Registry Editor can help prevent the Favorites list from appearing completely in File Explorer.
To edit the ShellFolder registry, run Registry Editor and navigate to the ShellFolder key.
If you edit the Attributes value in the ShellFolder subkey, you get ‘Could not edit the Attributes value because you do not have permission to change the ShellFolder key. There was an error writing the new value.’ An error will occur. You can change the permission through the following process.
Now let’s edit the Attributes value again, which didn’t go through due to lack of permission earlier.
Do one of the following to apply the changes made in the above process.
After applying the above process, check the result.
In File Explorer, you can see that Favorites are deleted normally.
