1. Definition of day laborer
A daily worker refers to a worker who is hired for a fixed period of 1 day or less than 30 days. This includes workers hired temporarily on short-term contracts of less than 3 months during the peak business season.

The employment patterns of daily workers are diverse, ranging from the transportation or construction industries, and their working periods and locations are irregular or irregular, making their income very unstable.

Therefore, with the revision of the law in 2004, it became mandatory for daily workers to subscribe to employment insurance. Therefore, we recommend that daily workers also sign up for employment insurance because they can receive various benefits.

2. Definition of unemployment benefits
Unemployment benefit is a part of the employment insurance program that prevents workers from experiencing financial difficulties in seeking employment in the future when they are unemployed and provides stability in their livelihoods.

Workers who may be eligible for these unemployment benefits are limited to those whose conditions for receiving job-seeking benefits are recognized by the head of the employment center. Types of these workers include daily construction workers, field workers, delivery workers, and part-time workers.

3. Eligibility for daily worker unemployment benefits
Eligibility to receive unemployment benefits for daily workers, a project implemented by Employment Insurance, is as follows.

The insured unit period is 180 days or more during the 18 months prior to the date of job change.

5. Calculation method for daily worker unemployment benefits
For daily workers, you must first find the average wage. The average wage is calculated by dividing the total by the remaining 3 months excluding the last 1 month out of the 4 months prior to the date of job change and is paid every 28 days.

*example
If the total number of working days in 3 months is 60 days and the total wage received during this period is 6 million won, the average wage is 100,000 won, and you can receive 60% of the wage depending on the situation at the time of retirement. To be specific, you can receive 900,000 won every 28 days for 4 months.

However, if you find a job while receiving unemployment benefits, you will only receive unemployment benefits until the day before you begin employment.

6. How to apply for unemployment benefits for daily workers
You can apply for unemployment benefits and how to apply for them on the Worknet website. Additionally, you must be recognized as a recipient to receive benefits. At this time, you can receive job-seeking benefits by attending the employment center every 1 to 4 weeks from the date of reporting unemployment and receiving recognition for unemployment.

At this time, if you do not attend the employment center on the designated day to receive recognition for unemployment, the number of pay days will be reduced by the number of days not recognized, so please keep this in mind and attend well.

Apply for a job online > Visit an employment security agency > Submit an application for recognition of eligibility for benefits > Notify of decision on whether or not you are eligible for benefits within 2 weeks after application
