The only royal tomb of the Joseon Dynasty in Gimpo. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the tomb of King Injo’s father, posthumously named Wonjong, and his wife, Queen Inheon. It was designated as Historic Site No. 202 on May 26, 1970.
The journey to Jangneung in Gimpo begins at the Jangneung History and Culture Center. There is a lot of information that will help you understand the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, such as ‘Wonjong’s family tree’, ‘Jangneung forming an axis with Gyeyangsan Mountain’, ‘Distribution of Joseon royal tombs’, and ‘Types and forms of Joseon royal tombs’.
If you leave the exhibition hall and walk along the forest path with a pond, you will reach Jangneung. It is a double tomb structure where the king and queen’s tombs are built side by side on the same hill. When you look from Jeongjagak, the tomb of Wonjong is on the left and that of Queen Inheon is on the right. If you look toward Hongsalmun from Jeongjagak, you can see an apartment building under construction in violation of cultural property protection regulations.
If you pass the tomb and take the path on the left, you will reach the forest path. It is a good walking path with beautiful scenery in all four seasons. You can also see the mandarin ducks, which are designated as natural monuments, at the southern reservoir. It takes about 30 minutes to walk the forest path that leads from Jaesil to the entrance. It takes about 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes to thoroughly tour the entire Jangneung. It is called by many names, including Daemyeong Port, Daemyeong Port Fish Market, Daemyeong Port Fish Market, and Daemyeong Port. Since coastal fishing boats sell directly through the fish market, fresh seasonal seafood is always traded.
From April to June, cuttlefish, bandeng, and crab are in season; from September to October, bandeng, and crab; and from November to December, black rockfish are in season. Seafood that is not included in the main fish species, such as conch, flounder, flatfish, tuna, and pufferfish, are also traded.
The types of fish sold vary depending on the type caught that day. These days, during the kimchi season, the fish market is bustling with people trying to buy raw shrimp. The price of seafood is incomparably cheaper than that of fish markets in the city. A basketful of seafood worth 10,000 won is lined up on the floor of the fish market. The only problem is using credit cards. Although it says ‘credit card payment accepted’ here and there, they ask for cash under various pretexts. This is a space where the daily lives of Gimpo citizens live and breathe. Centered around Hangang Central Park, a long waterway called Geumbitsu-ro stretches from north to south. It is said that you can find out why this place is called Geumbitsu-ro when you visit around sunset.
The northern end of Geumbitsu-ro is a nice walking trail. There is nothing else to see besides the statue of a girl. At the southern end is ‘La Venece’, which is modeled after Venice, Italy. There are many shopping and dining establishments nearby. You can also enjoy Geumbitsu-ro on water leisure equipment such as a crescent moon boat. A small park located near Gurae Station on the Gimpo Gold Line. It is loved as a walking path and resting place for residents of the Gurae Station and Masan Station areas, where apartment complexes are densely located. Hangang New Town Lake Park is full of cute things to see, such as flower fields, photo zones, trick art, and musical fountains.
The most attractive space is the picnic zone. There are parasols on the lakeside and a shade area on the lawn. In these days when social distancing has become a daily routine, the picnic zone in the form of an independently constructed bungalow is the best.
