익스프레스 VPN ExpressVPN – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

익스프레스 VPNExpressVPN is a virtual private network (VPN) service provided by Express VPN International, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands.[1] The software is marketed as a privacy and security tool that encrypts users’ web traffic and masks their IP addresses.[2]

On September 13, 2021, it was acquired by the Israeli company Kape Technologies PLC for approximately 1.12 trillion won.[3]

ExpressVPN’s parent company, Express VPN International, was founded in 2009 by serial entrepreneurs Peter Burchardt and Dan Pomeranz, both Wharton School alumni.[4] This parent company operates under the name ExpressVPN.

In December 2019, ExpressVPN became a founding member of the VPN Trust Initiative, an advocacy group for consumers’ online safety.[5]

In May 2020, we launched a new protocol called Lightway developed for ExpressVPN. Lightway is designed to improve connection speeds and reduce power consumption.[6] Last October, Sean O’Brien, founder of Yale Privacy Lab, joined the ExpressVPN Digital Security Lab to conduct original research in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity.[7]

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Daniel Gehrig, ExpressVPN’s chief information officer, was hired as a hacker by the United Arab Emirates government to help organize a large-scale global cybergaming campaign. Gehrig was not charged with a crime and instead agreed to never “use a computer network” again with his employer and to pay a $335,000 fine. “At the time, we were confident in Daniel’s aspirations for what he is today and his ability to contribute to our mission to protect the privacy and security of our users,” ExpressVPN said in a blog post.

ExpressVPN has released apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and routers.[12] These apps use 4096-bit CA, AES-256-CBC encryption, and TLSv1.2 to secure user traffic.[13] Available VPN protocols include Lightway, OpenVPN (TCP/UDP supported), SSTP, L2TP/IPSec, and PPTP.[14]
