모바일 운전면허증This is a service that allows you to verify driving qualifications and identity online and offline without a physical driver’s license. It can be used on all smartphones equipped with Android OS 6 or iOS 11 or higher operating systems officially released in Korea. It is currently available through the ‘PASS’ app of three mobile communication companies, and the service is scheduled to be provided by KakaoTalk, Naver, and Samsung Electronics by the end of this year.
Only a photo, QR code for authentication, and barcode are displayed on the authentication screen, minimizing unnecessary exposure of personal information. Since the existing physical driver’s license must be carried separately, there is a high risk of loss and, if lost, damages such as identity theft can be suffered. However, mobile driver’s licenses are less likely to be lost and reissue costs can be reduced.
It is currently being used for adult authentication at convenience stores CU and GS25, and can be used for identity verification when renewing or reissuing driver’s licenses and issuing international driver’s licenses at 27 driver’s license test centers nationwide. In the future, the number of uses is expected to increase through effectiveness and verification. However, because resident registration numbers are not collected, unlike existing driver’s licenses, it cannot replace a physical ID at government offices or banks.
Because it is based on blockchain technology, forgery and alteration are almost impossible, and telecommunication companies do not store license information. Screen capture prevention technology was applied, and the code was reset after 30 seconds to reduce the risk of theft. If you lose your phone and report it as lost, you will not be able to access the Pass app. Additionally, the mobile driver’s license service will be suspended when the actual driver’s license is reported lost.
① Run the installed ‘Pass’ app and click ‘Driver’s License’.
② Agree to use the mobile driver’s license verification service and then verify your identity.
③ Take a photo of the ‘real driver’s license’ according to the guide. (If not recognized, enter manually)
④ After filming, check the name, date of birth, license issuance date, identification number, etc.
* Through the driver’s license information verification system of the National Police Agency and the Road Traffic Authority and pass subscription information, it is automatically confirmed whether the applicant is the same person as the driver’s license. (Registration method may vary depending on your mobile carrier’s pass app)
